The initial reception facility in Suhl - almost everyone has an opinion, but who can really get a comprehensive picture? We are convinced that we can only find humane solutions if we listen to and consider different perspectives on a problem.

Wir haben mit sieben Menschen geredet, die alle auf unterschiedliche Weise direkt oder indirekt mit der Erstaufnahme zu tun haben. Sie berichten von unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen und haben sich unterschiedliche Gedanken dazu gemacht.

Game Theatre
Bist du auch wie wir so ein Nerd für Spiele, bei denen man etwas rausfinden kann, was wirklich stattgefunden hat? Genau so was wollen wir zur Erstaufnahme in Suhl entwickeln!
Wir werden den öffentlichen Raum auf neue Art erkunden, Menschen interviewen, kleine Theaterszenen entwickeln und alles zu einem Spiel zusammen bauen, was in Suhl und online gespielt werden kann!
Wenn du Spaß und Interesse an Theater, dem Entwickeln von Spielen oder Geschichten hast: Melde dich hier an und komm zum ersten Workshop am 28. Februar im Community Art Center, Steinweg 28.
Du brauchst keine Vorkenntnisse und alle Workshops sind für dich kostenlos! Fahrtkosten aus der Umgebung können erstattet werden, schreibt uns das bei der Anmeldung 🙂
Wer ist Gast, wer Gastgeber*in?
Wir leben in einer Welt, in der Früchte einfacher reisen als Menschen. Die aus Kolumbien stammende Künstlerin Natalia Castillo Rincón lud uns unter dem Namen »Papaya Patio« ein, zusammen zu kommen und sich über Grenzen hinweg auszutauschen. Eingeladen sind alle – ob sie im Zentrum, einem Ortsteil oder in der Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung wohnen.
Ab Sommer 2025 fanden zunächst mit Natalia und dann mit anderen Künstler*innen zahlreiche kleine Workshops statt, wo wir beim Kunst selber machen ins Gespräch kamen: u.a. ein Stickworkshop an der Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung und im Öffentlichen Raum in Suhl sowie mehrere Kochabende im Community Art Center.
2026 wollen wir regelmäßige Kochtreffen im Community Art Center etablieren und suchen dafür noch eure Unterstützung.

‘What happens after initial reception?’
The initial reception centre in Suhl, which has been stirring up emotions since 2014, is now set to close in 2026. It will probably not be fondly remembered by the people of Suhl or its employees – nor by most of the refugees who stayed there.
Mithilfe von Ausschnitten aus sieben sehr persönlichen Interviews haben wir am 16.9.25 nochmal unter die Oberfläche geschaut, wo wirklich die Probleme lagen und liegen.
Together with the political and administrative leaders present and you, dear audience, we discussed what we can learn for the future from over 10 years of EAE. So that we can start afresh together.

Theatre workshop for school classes
Theatre educator Julia Pöhlmann has developed a workshop for school classes based on our newspaper. In up to six school lessons (e.g. a project day), young people explore the topic of foreignness in a playful and creative way. The newspaper is used as a resource to create a space for open exchange and give young people the opportunity to express their own thoughts – without fear of saying or doing something ‘wrong’.
On 18 December 2024, class 10a from Friedrich-König-Gymnasium Suhl was the first class to spend a morning with us at the Community Art Centre Suhl. As there were no specific requirements in terms of content and the focus was on simple artistic expression, there were no reservations. The presentations of the group work attracted a great deal of attention and interest. In the subsequent discussion, the young people expressed their own exciting thoughts on the topic, which were not borrowed from the newspaper. At the end, some participants even wanted to take newspapers with them for a geography club. On 24 June 2025, a second very intensive workshop took place with a vocational school class.
